From Tokyo to Shimonoseki

  • By plane

  • From Tokyo, you can fly to Yamaguchi-Ube or Kitakyushu Airport in about 100 minutes with JAL, ANA, or Starflyer. Regular fares are around 40,000 yen, but discounts often range from 11,000 to 21,000 yen. From the airports, buses go to Shimonoseki Station—80 minutes from Yamaguchi-Ube (3,000 yen) and 70 minutes from Kitakyushu (1,000 yen).

  • From Tokyo, you can reach Shimonoseki by shinkansen in about 5 hours for around 21,000 yen. You'll usually need to transfer to a Kodama train at Shin-Yamaguchi or Tokuyama. The Japan Rail Pass covers the trip if you avoid Nozomi trains, which require extra payment.

From Osaka to Shimonoseki

  • From Osaka, you can reach Shimonoseki by shinkansen in about 2.5 hours for around 14,000 yen. You usually need to change to a Kodama train at Shin-Yamaguchi or Tokuyama. The Japan Rail Pass covers the trip if you avoid Nozomi trains, which require an extra fee.

From Kitakyushu to Shimonoseki

From Fukuoka to Shimonoseki

  • From Fukuoka, you can reach Shimonoseki in 35 minutes by shinkansen and local train (around 3,500–4,000 yen), or go via Kokura in 45–100 minutes for 1,500–2,500 yen, depending on the train type.

From Kumamoto to Shimonoseki

  • By train

  • From Kumamoto, you can reach Shimonoseki by shinkansen in about 55 minutes for 5,000–8,000 yen.
    There are five direct trains per day to Shin-Shimonoseki Station. From there, you can take a local train to Shimonoseki Station.

From Kagoshima to Shimonoseki

  • By train

  • From Kagoshima, you can reach Shimonoseki by train in about 2 hours and 10 minutes. Take the Kyushu Shinkansen from Kagoshima-Chūō to Kokura, then transfer to a local train to Shimonoseki. The total cost is approximately 8,000–12,000 yen.
