From Tokyo to Yamaguchi City

From Tokyo, you can fly to Yamaguchi Ube Airport with ANA or JAL in about 95 minutes. Regular fares are around 40,000 yen, but discounts often bring it down to 10,000–21,000 yen. From the airport, you can reach Shin-Yamaguchi Station by bus in 35 minutes (910 yen) or by train from nearby Kusae Station in 40 minutes (420 yen).

From Tokyo, you can reach Shin-Yamaguchi by shinkansen in about 4.5 hours on a direct Nozomi train for around 21,000 yen. Japan Rail Pass holders can’t use Nozomi without extra cost, but can take Hikari and Sakura trains with a transfer—this takes about 1 hour longer but is fully covered.
From Osaka to Yamaguchi City

From Osaka, you can take the shinkansen to Shin-Yamaguchi in about 2 hours for around 13,000 yen. The Japan Rail Pass covers Sakura trains, but you’ll pay extra for Nozomi. Tourists can get a discounted one-way ticket for 9,400 yen.
From Hiroshima to Yamaguchi City

From Hiroshima, you can reach Yamaguchi in about 30 minutes by shinkansen to Shin-Yamaguchi (around 4,100–6,500 yen), or in 1.5 hours by local train to Yamaguchi Station for about 2,310 yen.

From Fukuoka, you can take the shinkansen from Hakata to Shin-Yamaguchi in about 35 minutes for around 5,500 yen. The Japan Rail Pass covers Sakura and Kodama trains, but not Nozomi. Tourists can get a discounted ticket for 3,600 yen. Local trains are cheaper but take about 3 hours and require two transfers.
