Renowned for its rejuvenating hot springs, breathtaking natural beauty, and picturesque views of Mount Fuji across Lake Ashinoko, Hakone offers an idyllic escape from the bustling city. Visitors can indulge in luxurious ryokan stays, explore charming art museums, and experience the serenity of traditional Japanese gardens.

Getting around

Hakone is a mountainous region with several small towns, including Moto-Hakone and Hakone-machi by Lake Ashi, and Hakone-Yumoto, known for its hot springs. These towns are the area's main transport hubs. The region is easy to explore with a well-connected network of buses, trains, cable cars, ropeways, and sightseeing boats. One popular way to explore is by taking the Hakone Round Course, which covers all five types of transportation.

There are several passes that make traveling around Hakone convenient. The Hakone Free Pass (from 5,000 yen) offers unlimited access to trains, buses, boats, and cable cars for two or three days. The Fuji Hakone Pass (10,100 yen) also covers transportation to the Fuji Five Lakes area and includes a round trip from Tokyo to Hakone. The Hakone Kamakura Pass (7,520 yen) offers three days of unlimited travel across the Odakyu rail network, Hakone, and Kamakura.

Hakone is an incredible destination that offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and relaxing hot springs. I visited Lake Ashinoko and was amazed by the stunning views of Mount Fuji. The Hakone Ropeway and Tozan Railway provided scenic rides that gave me breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. I also enjoyed the Hakone Open Air Museum, which showcases impressive art in a beautiful outdoor setting. The onsens, particularly in Gora and Yumoto, were incredibly relaxing and the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploration. I highly recommend Hakone for anyone seeking a peaceful yet exciting getaway.
