Dogo Onsen Festival

The Dogo Onsen Festival (道後温泉まつり), held every March from the 19th, celebrates the cultural history of the iconic Dogo Onsen. For three days, Dogo Onsen and its surroundings are illuminated with lanterns and decorated in red pinstripes, creating a festive atmosphere. The event includes parades featuring people in historical costumes, local geisha games, and a special women-led omikoshi procession. The festival is quieter compared to its autumn counterpart but highlights the local community, with children participating in dancing in traditional yukata, waving ceremonial towels.

In addition to the cultural performances, the Dogo Onsen Festival offers a market with local produce and traditional foods. Visitors can enjoy mochi throwing, music, and the lively yet peaceful atmosphere as the parade moves through Dogo Station and the nearby shopping arcade.
