Matsuyama Spring Festival

2 of 2 in events in Matsuyama

The Matsuyama Spring Festival (松山春まつ) is a vibrant celebration held on the first weekend of April when cherry blossoms are in full bloom. On Saturday, the event kicks off with smaller activities, but Sunday’s highlight is the stunning Daimyo Musha Gyoretsu parade. The Lord of Matsuyama, surrounded by feudal warriors and ladies in traditional attire, makes his way through the city, creating a lively atmosphere. As the parade proceeds through Ropeway Dori and the Okaido Arcade, photographers capture the historic costumes, reflecting different periods like the Edo and Meiji eras.

While the parade is the main attraction, the surrounding park is filled with food stalls serving Ehime’s B-Class Gourmet delights, offering tasty regional specialties. Children dressed in kendo outfits practice martial arts under the cherry trees, adding to the lively ambiance. The event offers a unique glimpse into Matsuyama’s history, blending past and present, and is a must-see for both locals and visitors alike.
