The decorations are located in the Ichibancho and Chuo shopping arcades, a short walk from JR Sendai Station. Shimin Hiroba Square and Kotodai Park are at the end of Ichibancho Arcade, near Kotodaikoen Subway Station. Jozenji Dori connects Shimin Hiroba Square to the Hirosegawa River.

Sendai Tanabata Matsuri
The Sendai Tanabata Matsuri (仙台七夕まつり), celebrated annually from August 6-8, is one of Japan's most famous Tanabata festivals. Part of the Tohoku Sandai Matsuri, it transforms Sendai's shopping arcades into dazzling forests of colorful streamers made from washi paper and bamboo. These handcrafted decorations symbolize wishes for health, prosperity, and happiness, adding a magical touch to the city.
Visitors can also enjoy vibrant food stalls at Kotodai Park's Shimin Hiroba Square and a stunning fireworks display on August 5. The festival beautifully blends tradition and festive cheer.
