Getting there

From Kyoto:
From Kyoto, you can reach Lake Biwa by taking the JR Biwako Line to Otsu or Seta Station in 10-20 minutes or driving via the Meishin Expressway in 30-40 minutes.

From Nagoya:
From Nagoya, you can reach Lake Biwa by taking the JR Tokaido Shinkansen to Maibara Station (30 minutes), then transferring to the JR Biwako Line to Otsu or other lakeside towns (total 60-70 minutes), or by driving via the Meishin Expressway in 1.5 to 2 hours.
