From Osaka to Koyasan

  • By train, cable car, and bus

  • From Osaka, take the Nankai Koya Line to Gokurakubashi (80–100 mins, 930–1,720 yen), then a cable car (5 mins, 500 yen) and bus (10 mins, 460 yen) to Koyasan—walking from the cable car station is not allowed.

From Kyoto to Koyasan

  • By train, cable car, and bus

  • From Kyoto, you can reach Koyasan in 2.5–3 hours by taking a train to Osaka, then the Nankai Koya Line to Gokurakubashi (930–1,720 yen), followed by a cable car (500 yen) and a short bus ride (460 yen); walking from the cable car station is not allowed—consider using the Koyasan World Heritage Ticket or Kansai Railway Pass to save money.

From Kumano to Koyasan

  • By train, cable car, and bus

  • From Kumano, take a limited express train on the JR Kinokuni Line to Wakayama (1.5–3 hours, 4,500–6,500 yen), then transfer to the JR Wakayama Line to Hashimoto (1 hour), and finally take the Nankai Railway and cable car up to Koyasan (1 hour, 990 yen).
