From Tokyo to Hakone

  • By train

  • From Tokyo, you can reach Hakone by Odakyu’s Romance Car in 85 minutes (¥2,470) or cheaper express trains (¥1,270), or take a JR train to Odawara in 30–90 minutes (¥1,500–¥3,500), with the Hakone Free Pass available for both routes.

  • By bus

  • From Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station or Haneda Airport, you can take a direct highway bus to Hakone in 2–2.5 hours (¥2,200–2,500), with stops at places like Lake Ashi and Yokohama, and tickets can be booked online.

From Osaka to Hakone

  • From Osaka, take the shinkansen to Mishima, Atami, or Odawara (about 2.5 hours, ¥12,000), then continue to Hakone by bus or train—Odawara is the most convenient, and the Hakone Free Pass is valid from there.

From Kyoto to Hakone

From Fuji Five Lakes to Hakone

  • From the Fuji Five Lakes, take a bus to Gotemba (1 hour, ¥1,750), then transfer to a bus to Hakone (25–35 mins, ¥730–1,080); only the Fuji Hakone Pass covers the full route.
