Yamashita Park
Yamashita Park (山下公園, Yamashita Kōen) is a scenic public park located along Yokohama’s waterfront, stretching 750 meters. Built after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, this park offers visitors vast open green space. As you stroll through the park, you'll be captivated by the sight of the Hikawa Maru, a historic ocean liner anchored nearby. The ship, which once sailed the Yokohama-Vancouver/Seattle line, was favored by dignitaries like the Imperial Family and Charlie Chaplin. Now retired, it serves as a museum showcasing its original 1930s interiors and history.
Yamashita Park is also home to the Yokohama Marine Tower, an iconic structure standing 106 meters tall. This tower offers a 360-degree view from its observatory, which sits 100 meters above ground. The park’s wide promenade is perfect for a leisurely stroll by the water, offering views of the bay and passing ships. At the southern end, the path leads to the Rinkosen promenade and the Osanbashi Pier, making it an enjoyable walk between areas. Monuments and fountains, including a Filipino general's tribute and a girl scout statue, can be found scattered throughout the park.
