Government Office Ruins
Dazaifu was once the political hub of Kyushu during the Nara and Heian periods (710-1185). The grand government office complex, designed with imposing pillars and vermilion gates, showcased the island's power. It was built along a symmetrical grid, highlighting the prestige of the ruling government. Today, the office buildings are long gone, but visitors can still see the foundations, offering a glimpse of the ancient administrative heart of Dazaifu. Nearby, the Dazaifu Exhibition Hall offers archaeological insights into this fascinating history.
