Moji Port

2 of 11 in Kitakyushu

The Moji Port (門司港, Mojikō) district, once a bustling international trading hub, is now a charming tourist destination in Kitakyushu City. While the main port activities have moved to Shin-Moji Port, Moji Port retains its historic charm with beautifully preserved Western-style buildings from the Meiji and Taisho periods. Notable sites include Mojiko Station, one of Japan's oldest and most atmospheric stations, and the Moji Customs Building, now an art gallery open to visitors. A walk along the scenic waterfront takes you past several other historical buildings, some housing cafes, restaurants, and museums.

In addition to its rich history, Moji Port offers a delightful seaside promenade. The Kanmon Kaikyo Museum commemorates the strait's history, and the Mojiko Retro Observation Room provides panoramic views from 103 meters above ground. Don't miss a visit to Kaikyo Plaza, where you can shop for souvenirs and enjoy local delicacies like "Yaki Curry," a unique baked curry and rice dish. With banana products as a local specialty, Moji Port blends history, culture, and tasty treats for a memorable experience.
