Getting there

Google Maps

Tokunoshima is a quiet island with limited public transportation, so getting around by bus can be a bit tricky. Because buses don't come very often, the easiest way to explore the island is by renting a car. You can find a few car rental shops at Tokunoshima Airport and near Kametoku Port.

The island has two main bus routes. One connects the airport to the town center on the east coast, running every 1 to 2 hours. The other travels from the central town area through Isen Town along the southern coast to Amagi’s town center, with buses coming every 3 to 4 hours. A few smaller bus routes exist, but they run even less often. Bus fares range from 120 to 1,230 yen, depending on how far you go.
