Yakusugi Land
Yakusugi Land (屋久杉ランド) is a must-visit nature park on Yakushima, known for its ancient cedar trees, or yakusugi, which are over 1,000 years old. The park offers a range of hiking trails suitable for all levels, from easy walks to more challenging routes. The shortest trail, a boardwalk path, takes you to one of these incredible ancient trees. For those looking for a longer adventure, the trails extend further into the forest and even lead to the peak of Tachudake, where panoramic views await.
Located just a 15-minute drive from Yakusugi Land, you can also visit Kigensugi, another massive cedar tree. Unlike the others, Kigensugi is easily accessible by car. With English signage and pamphlets available, Yakusugi Land is an ideal place for anyone eager to experience Yakushima’s ancient forests and iconic yakusugi up close.
