Arima Christian Heritage Museum

Arima Christian Heritage Museum (有馬キリシタン遺産記念館, Arima Kirishitan Isan Kinenkan) tells the powerful story of Christianity’s presence and persecution in Japan. Located near Hara Castle, this museum focuses on the Shimabara Peninsula's Christian heritage. Visitors can view rare artifacts, including crosses, rosaries, and medals that were excavated from Hara Castle, where a major Christian-led uprising took place. There's also a replica of an excavation site where the remains of rebel fighters were discovered.

The museum also explains how Western traders influenced Japan’s politics and culture when Christianity first arrived. While much of the information is in Japanese, the exhibits still offer a deep insight into a hidden part of Japan’s past. The museum is named after the Arima clan, who once ruled this area. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in history, faith, or the dramatic Shimabara Rebellion.
