2 of 2 in Kunisaki Peninsula

Usa Shrine (宇佐神宮, Usa Jingū) is a grand and historic shrine built in the 8th century at the base of the Kunisaki Peninsula. It is the head shrine of thousands dedicated to Hachiman, the god of archery and war, and is deeply connected to the legendary Emperor Ojin. Its main hall is a national treasure and the prototype of the Hachiman-zukuri architectural style, where two halls connect under one roof, surrounded by a covered corridor.

The shrine grounds are spacious and beautiful, featuring an upper and lower shrine complex, a treasure hall, scenic ponds, and lovely walking paths. Visitors can approach through wide avenues lined with souvenir shops, pass under impressive vermilion torii gates, and admire special sights like the thatched Kurehashi Bridge and a noh stage on a lotus pond. Usa Shrine offers a peaceful blend of history, nature, and culture perfect for every traveler.
