Amamigunto National Park covers parts of eight islands and the surrounding waters in southern Kagoshima Prefecture. It's a great place to swim, dive, hike, kayak, and spot unique wildlife. You can explore the islands by bus or rental car.
From Tokyo:
Fly from Haneda or Narita Airport to Amami Airport (2hr 40min). Rent a car at the airport, or take a bus from Amami City (45 min by car, 60 min by bus).
From Kagoshima:
Fly from Kagoshima Airport to Amami (60 min), Tokunoshima (60 min), or Kikai (80 min). Ferries also operate between Kagoshima and Amami Oshima, taking around 11 hours.
From Naha (Okinawa):
Fly from Naha Airport to Amami (60 min), Yoron (40 min), or Okinoerabu (55 min). Ferries also operate from Naha to the Amami Islands, taking around 13 hours.
Getting Around:
Daily ferries connect some islands, including Amami Oshima, Tokunoshima, Okinoerabu, and Yoron. Flights also link the islands. Public buses are available in Amami City, but car rentals are recommended for other islands.
