Take the Konan Railway from Hirosaki to Kuroishi Station (35 minutes), then from April to November, take a bus to Nijinoko Koen (35 minutes, 770 yen), followed by a free shuttle to Lamp no Yado in Aoni Onsen; in winter, the shuttle runs directly from Kuroishi Station, and reservations are required. Alternatively, you can drive to Aoni Onsen in about an hour from central Hirosaki.

Aoni Onsen
Aoni Onsen (青荷温泉), located deep in a forested valley between Hirosaki and Lake Towada, offers a secluded hot spring experience. Known for its peaceful, remote atmosphere, Aoni Onsen is far from modern distractions—there’s no running electricity or cell phone reception, which makes it a unique retreat from the digital world.
The accommodation, Lamp no Yado, is surrounded by nature beside the Aoni River. The building is lit by hundreds of oil lamps, creating a nostalgic ambiance every evening. Guests can enjoy four different baths, each offering a different atmosphere, with three gender-segregated. The rooms are simple, and meals are served in a communal dining area. If you want to disconnect and experience rustic, traditional Japanese onsen life, Aoni Onsen is a great choice.
