Miyama Travel Tips
Miyama (美山), a serene rural gem located 30 kilometers north of Kyoto, offers a glimpse into traditional Japan with its charming thatched roof (kayabuki) farmhouses. Over 200 of these historic homes dot the countryside, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. Unlike other historic towns, many of Miyama's farmhouses are still lived in today, allowing visitors to experience an authentic slice of rural life.
Miyama consists of small villages nestled in winding valleys, with Kayabuki no Sato being the main attraction. This picturesque village boasts nearly 40 thatched roof homes, more than anywhere else in Japan. While most are private residences, visitors can wander through the village, taking in its timeless beauty and experiencing the tranquil ambiance of traditional Japan.
